Advocate Peace & Economic Development In The IGAD Region
The business community in the IGAD region promote comprehensive peace and development through proactive engagement with local businesses, respective governments and civil society organizations.
VISION
– Be a significant peace and development advocacy center in Ethiopia and the region by 2024.
PURPOSE
– Involve the business community in peace advocacy and development initiatives in Ethiopia and the IGAD region
– Enhance the influence and contributions of the business community on matters of peace and development in Ethiopia and the immediate region
– Enable the business community to actively engage in ensuring good governance and nation building in Ethiopia and the IGAD region
– Encourage the business community to undertake corporate social responsibilities in comprehensive manner
– Promote the rights and interests of the business community in the peace and development endeavors of Ethiopia and the IGAD region

Job Creation & Investment
Businesses should create jobs not only to earn profits but to play their corporate social responsibility roles. At a minimum, businesses should also comply with local and international laws. For example, they should ensure their workers have a safe working environment, pay them at least the national minimum wage, and not employ child workers.
Promoting Peace & Development
Peace and development in the region is a recipe for cooperation and integration, businesses readily diversifying their resource base and outreach within the broader market of the IGAD region. Businesses will ensure their interests in the medium-to-long run and create opportunities for collective wellbeing and prosperity of the rather disadvantaged people in the region.
Economic Integration
Violence and insecurity strongly affect the overall economy. They hinder investment and trade, disrupt services, and restrict mobility. The vast majority of people become poorer. Businesses are a vital, visible part of economic integration ,it is their most obvious contribution to peace. They create jobs, produce goods and services, and increase societal wealth. They can often boost the local economy and promote peace even more by using local suppliers, wherever possible, rather than relying on imports.
